Antiqued Swords
"Live Steel" refers to the use of swords that are fully combat worthy. Introducing the world's first line of antiqued weapons! These swords are fully functional, but the furnishings are aged to give them an authentic centuries-old appearance. Most are also available in regular (new) finishes on our other sword pages. They have an excellent temper and are very popular among our swordsmen clients who have received them. We encourage you to remove some of the edge if you intend to practice with these as the semi-sharp edge is still dangerously sharp.

Scottish Claymore
(antiqued): Mainstay of the Highland warriors of the late 15th and 16th
centuries, the Claymore had a uniquely styled hilt that sets it apart from other great
swords of the period. Typically of hand-and-a-half length, this versatile weapon could
deliver great sweeping slashes or powerful thrusts. Replicated from a surviving
museum piece our Claymore is classic in its design, with distinctive sloping quillons
terminating in quatrefoils and a high-collared quillon block with langets following the
blade fuller. The leather-covered grip is topped by a globate pommel.
Originally carried slung on the back, the Claymore matches perfectly with our OL1038B back
scabbard offered below. Item # SH2060N OVERALL: 54 3/4" BLADE: 41" THICKNESS: 0.22" WEIGHT: 4lbs 14oz Note: This sword does not come with a sheath. We suggest a Back Scabbard, available below. |

Scottish Mutuary Hilt Sword
(antiqued): Replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal
Armouries in England, our Mortuary Hilt Sword is a classic example of a cavalry or dragoon
officers sword of the 17th century English Civil War period. Deriving its name
from the style of sword which memorialized King Charles I, who was executed in 1649, the
Mortuary Hilt Swords steel basket is decorated with scrolled foliage while an
engraved head of Charles I appears on the pommel. The lozenge-section double-edged
blade is partially fullered and bears the swordmakers mark 1414, the
derivation of which has been lost in time. The leather handle wrap terminates in
silver wire Turks Head knots. The sword, like the original, is
beautifully balanced. Sheath included, as shown. Item # SH2004N
OVERALL: 39 1/4" BLADE: 33" THICKNESS: 0.24" WEIGHT: 2lbs 5oz

Scottish Basket-hilt Backsword (antiqued): It is likely that the blade of the original sword was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined. The Basket-Hilt Backsword dates from about 1760 and has an unusual basket with twin engraved horned beastie plaques and a blade with twin fullers running most of its length. Again the original blade is German in origin but the blade and hilt are contemporary. This sword features a wire-wrapped ray skin handle and cloth-covered leather basket liner. Sheath included, as shown. Item # SH2003N OVERALL: 39" BLADE: 32 1/2" THICKNESS: 0.210" WEIGHT: 2lbs 9oz Note: "Backswords" have one edge and one blunt (backed) side, hence the name. |

Scottish Basket-hilt Broadsword (antiqued): Although Basket-Hilt swords appeared throughout Britian from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the seventeenth and eighteenth century Scottish highlander has become legendary. Early highland swords almost invariably carried the double-edged broadsword blade but by the time of the Battle of Culloden (1746) the single-edged backsword was at least equal in popularity. Both the Basket-Hilt backsword and broadsword are replicated from period pieces in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England. The Basket-Hilt Broadsword carries a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-18th century. It is likely that the blade of the original sword was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined. This sword features a wire-wrapped ray skin handle and cloth-covered leather basket liner. Sheath included, as shown. Item # SH2002N OVERALL: 39 3/4" BLADE: 33 1/2" THICKNESS: 0.150" WEIGHT: 3lbs 1oz
