Practice Arms
Suitable for sustained, rigorous training
These Practical broadswords (SH2106, SH2046, SH2047) are all based on
authentically styled swords in our collection but they are tailored to meet the needs of
re-enactment and stage combat. These very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic
hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They are designed to
withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of todays
re-enactment societies. The blades are crafted from 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to
50HRC, which restricts edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and
protection against brittleness. While the blades are substantial, they are fullered to
provide balance and good handling characteristics. They feature 1/16 wide edges and
rounded tips for safety. The tangs are also substantial, with radiused corners at the
blade shoulders and no welds. The end of the tang is riveted over the pommel, which both
eliminates any possibility of inadvertent disassembly and provides a traditional means of
tightening a loose hilt. The hardwood grips are leather-covered. The scabbards are
fabricated in glass-filled resin, to provide great impact resistance, to eliminate
swelling and to minimize blade corrosion problems. The scabbards now feature belt rings
that adjust to allow vertical or horizontal carry. The wood-grain finish is attractive,
but most re-enactors will decorate the scabbard to match their persona.
These swords are worthy of the most diligent knights, squires, and
rogues.
Squire: "Lord, how
can real swords be so inexpensive?"
Wise Knight: "My young lad, much of
the cost of a sword is not spent on the functional aspects. It is spent on the
aesthetics, such as the handle design, the finishing and the decorating. Take the
nonsense away and you have an inexpensive but fully functional sword, worthy of any
knight. Now hurry along and slay some dragons for me."

Practice Norman Sword:
An important addition to our European practical line is the Practical Norman sword, based
on a classic 11th century pattern popular during the Norman Invasion of Britain. The
high-carbon deeply-fullered blade is light and well-balanced, with the wide edges required
by the re-enactment community. The guard is wider than that of the earlier Viking designs
that preceded this pattern and the pommel is of the tea-cosy type The grip is
grooved and leather-wrapped and the scabbard is left plain for owner decoration. Scabbard
has two loops as shown for attachment to baldric or sword belt. Blade length
30", overall lenth 36" Weighs 2lbs 5oz Item

Hand-and-a-Half Practice Sword:
Based on the sword carried by Albrecht II of Austria, this hand-and-a-half sword
represents the pinnacle of beauty and balance in medieval swords. This type of sword
was also known as a "Bastard Sword", perhaps because it was suitable for single
hand use but also had a large enough handle to accomodate two handed fighting.
Frequently, a knight would use this sword with one hand until his shield was lost or
destroyed. Then he would lock into two handed action. The "Lion
Rampant" of the Hapsburg dynasty adorns the pommel, just as on the original, which
dates to the early 15th century. The deeply fullered blade lends exceptional balance
to this sword. An incredible value. Blade length 34", overall lenth
44" Weighs 3lbs 3 oz, Thickness .250" Item #SH-2106 |

Single Hand Practice Sword:
Redesigned for 2007 with a ridged handle and hanging loops on the
scabbard. This sword design is true to the sword carried by England's most
distinguished knight, Sir William Marshall. William Marshall served three kings,
including Richard the Lionheart, and lived a highly disciplined life. He conducted
warfare with integrity and was able to stay above the political strife of his time.
The Weapons Emporium salutes all brave warriors who strive to emulate the honor which
William Marshall carried within his heart. This style sword was very popular during
the period of the Third Crusade, and is often referred to as the Knightly Sword because of
its popularity among the noble class. Blade length 30", overall lenth
36.5", Weighs 2lbs 7 oz, Thickness .230 Item #SH-2046

Viking Practice Sword: Utilizing the
popular tri-lobed pommel design, this Viking styled practice sword is sure to bring the
berserker out in you. The deep fuller imparts a blalance that makes this blade feel
like it was forged in dragon fire by the magical dwarves, deep in the mountains of the
Scandinavian homeland. This is one of the most popular of our practice series.
The unfinished wooden scabbard is ready for stain, leather straps or bindings, fur,
iron tacks/studs, or any other embellishment you can dream of. A fine blade, indeed.
